What is 9465-ET-S-SC?+The MTL 9465-ET-S-SC is an intrinsically safe (IS) 10/100Mbps copper-to-fibre optic media converter. It securely extends Ethernet networks into hazardous areas (such as Zone 1 or Division 1) by converting standard Cat5e Ethernet into a single-mode fibre optic signal.

How is this device powered in hazardous areas?+It can be powered either by an intrinsically safe power supply or via Power over IS Ethernet (PoEx™). PoEx allows both intrinsically safe power and Ethernet communications to be delivered over a single Cat5e cable, allowing for safe live connection and disconnection.

What is the maximum length for the copper (UTP) cable?+The 10/100Mb Ethernet twisted pair (Cat5e) RJ45 copper connection supports a maximum length of 100 meters.

Longer distances are achievable withsingle mode fibre.Longer distances are obtained by simply connecting a 9466 (10/100MbpsEthernet Switch) between two 9465 media converters, effectively givinga 'repeater' function (This also provides 3 x UTP ports available for localnetwork connectivity), this can be repeated as required.
The use of fibre optics gives exceptional immunity to noise and electricalinterference, it is also used when connecting a Hazardous Area networkto a Zone 2 / Safe Area network or device.
The 9465-ET-S-SC MTL SC style 9µm Single-mode may still be available for purchase and support from Amikon Limited beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

When installed in a Zone 1 or Division 1 hazardous area the convertermay be powered by an intrinsically safe power supply or by Powerover IS Ethernet (PoEx) providing intrinsically safe power and Ethernetcommunications over a single Cat5e cable.When mounted in a safe area the converter may be powered by a12V dc general-purpose power supply and the 'IS op' approval allowsconnection of the fibre optic cable into the hazardous area.

Copper (RJ45): Connects via standard Cat5e or Cat6 cable. The maximum segment length is 100 meters.Fibre (SC): Use 9µm single-mode fibre. The top port is for Transmit (TX) and the bottom port is for Receive (RX).
Direct IS Power: Connect a 12V DC (10–15.4V) intrinsically safe supply to the front screw terminals.
PoEx (Power over IS Ethernet): If using a PoEx-compatible source (like the MTL 9466-ET), no separate power wiring is needed on the screw terminals.
