Description

The Bently Nevada 330851-04-000-030-10-00-05 is a 3300 XL 25 mm eddy current proximity probe designed for use in the 3300 XL 25 mm Proximity Transducer System. It provides high-accuracy, non-contact measurement of shaft displacement and position in large rotating machinery, making it suitable for continuous condition monitoring and machinery protection applications.

The 3300 XL 25 mm Transducer System consists of a separate25 mm probe, an extension cable, and a 3300 XL 25 mmProximitor Sensor.  The 0.787 V/mm (20 mV/mil) output givesthis system a linear range of 12.7 mm (500 mils).  Based onthis linear range, the 3300 XL 25 mm Transducer System issuitable for measuring differential expansion (DE) on midsize to large steam turbine generators caused by thedifference in growth rates between the turbine rotor and themachine stator (casing).

The 330851-04-000-030-10-00-05 is an 3300 XL 25 mm Proximity Probe from the Bently Nevada 3300 XL 25 mm series, manufactured by Bently Nevada (Baker Hughes). It is configured with an M30 × 2 metric thread, 4 mm unthreaded length, 30 mm overall case length, and 1.0 meter total unarmored cable length with multiple hazardous area approvals.

The probe operates as the sensing element of the 3300 XL 25 mm eddy current transducer system, detecting the distance between the probe tip and a conductive target surface through electromagnetic induction. The 25.0 mm probe tip diameter provides an extended linear measurement range of 12.7 mm (500 mils) with a standard gap setpoint of 6.35 mm (250 mils). This large linear range is approximately 6.3 times greater than the 3300 XL 8 mm probe, making it suitable for applications with large target movement or where significant standoff distance is required. System sensitivity is 3.94 V/mm (100 mV/mil) with ±5% tolerance, delivering an output voltage of -10 VDC to -24 VDC proportional to the probe-to-target gap.

The 330851-04-000-030-10-00-05 Bently Nevada 3300 XL 25 mm Proximity Probe may still be available for purchase and support from Amikon Limited beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The probe body and cable are rated for continuous operation from -51°C to +177°C (-60°F to +351°F). The unarmored cable construction offers flexibility for installations where mechanical protection is not required or where cable routing through conduit provides adequate protection. The cable is rated for IP68 submersibility and withstands pressures up to 500 psi (34.5 bar).

The M30 × 2 metric thread enables direct mounting into large metric threaded bosses or adapters. The 4 mm unthreaded length provides clearance between the mounting surface and the probe tip. The 30 mm overall case length is a compact configuration for the 25 mm probe series, providing minimal probe extension for installations with limited clearance. The 1.0 meter total length includes the integral probe cable with a standard miniature coaxial connector for connection to extension cables or directly to the proximitor.

  • Power Generation: Deployed in thermal/nuclear/combined-cycle stations to safeguard generator sets
  • Oil & Gas: Implemented across upstream/downstream machinery to mitigate catastrophe risks
  • Petrochemical Refining: Protects continuous-duty process compressors from severe structural cross-contact
  • Steam Turbines: Tracks differential growth between fast-heating rotor and slower-expanding stator casing
  • Gas Compressors: Monitors axial changes and heavy shaft displacements in industrial compressors
  • Fluid-Film Bearings: Provides long-range non-contact positioning for massive rotating assemblies

Orientation: Install the probe perpendicular to the observed conductive target. Ensure there is sufficient clearance around the 27mm smooth side-exit case to prevent side-loading or rubbing.
Unthreaded Length: This specific model (000) features zero unthreaded length. It relies on a smooth case design, requiring an external clamping mechanism (like a sliding bracket) to set the gap.Case Length: The probe has an overall case length of 30 mm.
Setting the Gap: Adjust the physical gap between the probe tip and the turbine collar to the manufacturer's nominal target (typically around 1.27 mm or 50 mils), which will output an initial gap voltage of roughly -10 VDC to -12 VDC from the Proximitor sensor.

Technical notes

The criteria for selecting a mounting method are the size ofthe available target, the expected amount of rotor axialmovement and the type of DE target that exists in themachine (collar versus ramp).  If sufficient collar height isavailable, two transducers observing the same side of a3300 XL Proximity Transducer SystemDatasheet163236 Rev. Mcollar is the preferred configuration.  These twotransducers provide redundant measurements.
