Description

The Bently Nevada 330171-00-24-10-02-00 is a 3300 5mm Proximity Probe with 1/4-28 UNF thread and without armor, designed as a core component of the 3300 5mm Proximity Transducer System. The 330171-00-24-10-02-00 provides an output voltage that is directly proportional to the distance between the probe tip and the observed conductive surface, and can measure both static (position) and dynamic (vibration) values. The primary applications of the 330171 include vibration and position measurements on fluid-film bearing machines, as well as Keyphasor reference and speed measurement.

The 330171-00-24-10-02-00 uses smaller physical packaging while providing the same linear range as a 3300XL 8mm probe. The 330171 does not, however, reduce the sideview clearances or tip-to-tip spacing requirements as compared to an XL 8mm probe. The 330171 is ideal for use when physical (not electrical) constraints preclude the use of an 8mm probe, such as mounting between thrust bearing pads or other constrained spaces. The 330171-00-24-10-02-00 incorporates a patented TipLoc molding method that provides a more robust bond between the probe tip and the probe body, enhancing mechanical durability in demanding industrial environments.

Overview Manual Application Notes Product Applications Probe Insertion

Features:

  • 1/4-28 UNF Thread Without Armor in Compact 5mm Package
  • Patented TipLoc Molding for Robust Probe Tip Bond
  • Corrosion-Resistant Gold-Plated ClickLoc Connectors
  • Optional FluidLoc Cable for Liquid Containment
  • Fluorocarbon O-Ring Pressure Seal Design
The 330171-00-24-10-02-00 improves upon previous designs. A patented TipLoc molding method provides a more robust bond between the probe tip and the probe body. The probe tip of the 330171-00-24-10-02-00 is made of polyphenylene sulfide (PPS), and the probe case is constructed from AISI 303 or 304 stainless steel. The 330171-00-24-10-02-00 is equipped with a 75 Ω triaxial FEP-insulated probe cable measuring 1.0 meter in length.

The 330171-00-24-10-02-00 and the 3300 XL extension cable have corrosion-resistant, gold-plated brass ClickLoc connectors. These connectors on the 330171-00-24-10-02-00 require only finger-tight torque, and the specially engineered locking mechanism prevents the connectors from loosening. The connectors require no special tools for installation or removal.

The 330171-00-24-10-02-00 Bently Nevada 3300 5mm Proximity Probes may still be available for purchase and support from Amikon Limited beyond End-Of-Life (EOL) by the manufacturer (OEM).

The 330171-00-24-10-02-00 delivers a linear range of 2 mm (80 mils), beginning at approximately 0.25 mm from the target surface. The incremental scale factor of the 330171-00-24-10-02-00 is 7.87 V/mm (200 mV/mil) ±6.5% typical, including interchangeability error when measured in increments of 0.25 mm over the linear range. The deviation from the best fit straight line is less than ±0.038 mm (±1.5 mil) typical. Over the probe temperature range of –35°C to +177°C, the incremental scale factor remains within ±10% of 7.87 V/mm, and the deviation from the best fit straight line remains within ±0.076 mm (±3 mils).
All 3300 XL Proximity Transducer Systems achieve complete interchangeability of probe, extension cable, and Proximitor sensor, eliminating the need for individual component matching or bench calibration. The 330171-00-24-10-02-00 is backward compatible and interchangeable with other non-XL 3300 series 5 mm transducer system components.
  • Steam/Gas Turbines: Monitors radial vibration and axial thrust in fluid-film bearings
  • Generators: Tracks thermal expansion and shaft dynamics to prevent rotor-stator rubbing
  • Hydro Turbines: Measures alignment, runout, and structural vibration of main shaft
  • Centrifugal Compressors: Continuously tracks shaft vibration to prevent catastrophic failure
  • Turboexpanders: Measures high-speed rotor stability and provides speed/overspeed data

Target Distance: Thread the probe into the machine casing or bracket until it physically touches the target rotor shaft (or a flat reference surface).
Back Off: Turn the probe counter-clockwise by a specific amount depending on your desired gap. The normal gap voltage range is typically around -9.0 V to -11.0 V DC when the shaft is centered in the bearing.
Lock: Tighten the locknuts securely to ensure the probe cannot shift due to machine vibration. Verify the final gap voltage using a digital multimeter

Technical notes

The 330171 can be ordered with a FluidLoc cable option for preventing oil and other liquids from leaking out of the machine through the cable's internal channel. The 330171 is designed to seal differential pressure between the probe tip and case, with the probe sealing material consisting of a fluorocarbon O-ring. The 330171 operates over a standard temperature range and is compatible with the 3300XL Proximitor Sensor and extension cable. When combined with a 3300XL Proximitor Sensor and XL extension cable, the 330171 system provides an accurate, stable signal output over a wide temperature range.

FAQs

  • What is the 330171-00-24-10-02-00 ?

    +
The Bently Nevada 330171-00-24-10-02-00 is a standard component in the 3300 5 mm Proximity Transducer System.
  • Does it require an extension cable?

    +
Yes. You must use a 3300 XL extension cable alongside the 330171 probe. The combined total length of the probe and extension cable must match the calibration of your Proximitor Sensor (typically 5 meters or 9 meters).
  • What is the maximum installation torque?

    +
When installing the probe, the maximum recommended torque is 11.2 N·m (100 in·lb). Exceeding this limit can strip the thread or physically damage the probe coil and tip.
  • What is the ClickLoc connector used for?

    +
The ClickLoc connector secures the connection between the probe and the extension cable. It prevents the connection from loosening due to machine vibration.
